Deathtrap

Written by Ira Levin. Directed by Johnny McKnight.  Dundee Rep Theatre.  20th February – 10 March 2018

**** “Like an extended episode of Inside No 9 as though directed by Ryan Murphy…  a forensically dissected production…”  THE HERALD

**** “Visually spectacular, elegant and witty… a delicious rollercoaster ride…”  THE SCOTSMAN

**** “Tickling thriller tropes into submission, Johnny McKnight proves that he’s not just a purveyor of panto for the Christmas season… It’s furious, funny and juicy, as the nature of fame becomes a bloody battle where nobody wins… Levin’s brilliant satirical words still sting like paper cuts.”  THE LIST

Washed-up playwright Sidney Bruhl is desperate – he’s not had a hit play in years, inspiration is nonexistent and funds are desperately low. A break in his fortunes occurs when a student asks him to read DEATHTRAP – a play Sydney immediately recognises as a potential Broadway hit.  Chasing a desperate desire to once again be the toast of Broadway, Sidney is prepared to do whatever it takes. Deathtrap, it turns out, really is a play to die for.

Plotting and double-crossing come thick and fast in this brilliant maze of backstabbing twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.
One of the most successful black comedies ever, Deathtrap is a truly satisfying spine-chilling play-withina-play-within-a-play that will have you laughing and screaming in equal measure.

Deathtrap holds the record as the longest running thriller in Broadway history.
